On the morning of 25th June, 2020 "Shared Joy in Jiangsu" & "Hello 5G" Cup Suzhou Jinji Lake International Dragon Boats Race was open in Yueguang Wharf.
This year's Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race continues to be guided by Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government. The race was co-hosted by the Propaganda Department of CPC Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, Suzhou Sports Bureau and Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee, and undertaken by Suzhou Industrial Park Genway Sport Development Co., LTD. Yang Liqun, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of CPC Jiangsu Party Committee and Head of the Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government, Jin Jie, Standing Member of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Head of the Propaganda Department, Wang Yang, Deputy Mayor of CPC Suzhou Municipal Government, Ding Lixin, Deputy Secretary of CPC Party Working Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of Suzhou Industrial Park, Wu Qi, Deputy Secretary-general of CPC Suzhou Municipal Government, Yang Fang, Deputy Secretary of Propaganda Department of CPC Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Head of the Information Office of CPC Suzhou Municipal Government, Han Weibing, Director of Suzhou Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Zhu Jiang, Standing Member of CPC Party Working Committee, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee and Head of the Propaganda Department of Suzhou Industrial Park, Li Bin, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Sports Bureau, Wang Suchun, Director of Suzhou City Civilization Office as well as representatives from China Telecom Suzhou Branch, Pacific Insurance Suzhou Branch and other officials and guests attended the opening ceremony.
Dragon Boat Race is a Chinese traditional folk event that is popular among residents. It highlights long history and wonderful culture of China and the spirit of national collectivism. 56 teams composed of 1168 participants were invited in 2020 Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race. Among them, 108 participants belonging to 6 teams are foreigners who stay in Suzhou or Jiangsu. They are from 15 countries and regions including France, Germany, Russia, Brazil, etc.
The program “Congratulations of International Connection” was specially designed for foreign athletes who failed to participate in match due to the COVID-19, to share the happiness on site and deliver the spirit of the dragon boat sport. In addition, wonderful live program like “Dragon Boat Competition”, “Suzhou Red Cross online first aid training” and “China Telecom 5G special show” were all set up for viewers. The match is in the form of bilingual interpretation in both Chinese and English, allowing foreign contestants to understand the entire process of Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race and experience the culture of traditional Dragon Boat festival. While spreading the Chinese Dragon Boat culture, it promotes cultures exchanges between China and other countries and enhances the international level of the event.
The year 2020 is the eleventh season to hold Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race. As a sports event, the Dragon Boat Race actively responds to national policies that creating an atmosphere of participation by the whole society, covering all regions and being shared by the all people. Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race is one of the most representative events which is a brand integrating culture, tourism and sports in Suzhou Industrial Park and Suzhou City. Team of SuzhouMICE prepared for the event for nearly half a year, which finally made this competition a success.
